MASTERCLASSES & MORE

Hi, I hope you’re well.

I’m delighted to announce that details of our 2024 Masterclass Programme are now on the website and available to book.

Look no further for exceptional, professional ceramics tuition in bite-size form.

We have a varied programme of two and three-day courses that we hope you will join us for:

Places are limited so if you would like to book but need time to save up, you may pay a deposit. Please email to arrange and remember to ask for a GIFT VOUCHER for Christmas!

In other news…

  • I ran another Yr5/6 throwing workshop at Exeter University. It was exhausting and messy but so well worth it - inspiring potters of the future.

  • The talented Allie Sylvester taught a fantastic botanical print workshop last weekend. We hung on her every word as she guided us through the processes to create beautiful prints and time just whizzed by. It was so successful (I even made cake), she’s agreed to come back for more next year.

  • The porcelain hanging decoration workshops were also much enjoyed and the kiln firings have been successful so they are ready to picked up.

  • This coming weekend the studio will be full to capacity with a bespoke workshops.

Some of the student work produced this year has been a joy to watch in progress and even more exciting to see finished. Previous creations are slowly being collected and everyone has been very happy (if not amazed) by the work that has come out of the kiln. Just two breakages out of the hundreds of items fired this year. Please do arrange to collect completed work over the next couple of weeks if you can. Please bring packing if required, having packed up 100+ student pots, my recycled stash has disappeared!

Godric the kiln remains a challenge as during the last firing the door bricks dropped so that the spy hole is no longer visible. I’m hoping the kiln downstairs will be connected before too long.

It’s that time of year again and Gift Vouchers for the gallery or a clay experience are a great idea and help to support a small business too.

We are noticing a Dartmoor ‘nip’ in the air and I have taken the decision to close the studio over the winter months as I want everyone to have a pleasurable experience when they are here. Working with cold clay is miserable!

Commercial electricity prices to heat a stone barn with a tin roof are eye-watering. To give you an idea, firing Godric for a biscuit and high fire cycle cost £150. It’s not ideal to close but it is a precaution for this first year. I will still be here, developing my own work and the gallery/shop will remain open.

Classes will be back in the spring straight after half-term . I hope to see you then.

New sets of classes are available to book on Thursdays after Spring half term (week beg 18th Feb) – hand-building in the morning and throwing in the afternoon.  Evening classes will also return in the Spring as will tasters and workshops. Watch this Space.
