Wood-firing produces untamed glazes with life and energy. You have to give up on control and trust the alchemy and process. Some of my pots were disastrous and others stunningly beautiful.
This coming Sunday we’ll be back to unpack the groundhog (huge, long kiln) after it’s spent 9 days cooling. The firing was incredible - hard work and exciting. The team was brilliant. So much care, kindness, joy and understanding & great shared meals.
It was a gift to be taught with such expertise and to see the passion and determination of some of the much younger potters there. I’ve learnt loads from everyone and am looking forward to showcasing some of their work in the shop/gallery.
I’d booked the course well before I’d seen and taken on the new studio and I was worried about ‘dropping the ball’ whilst away. Sometimes though, a break, lovely company and pushing yourself in a new direction is exactly the right thing to do.
